Starting school is a great change in a child’s life, and a big adjustment for parents too. Being well organized will help to make it a progressive and exciting understanding for them and for you.

Don’t worry about writing, reading and calculation at this stage – they will learn all this from their teachers. Instead consideration on giving your child the self-confidence, independence and social skills to help them succeed in the classroom and the playground. Here is the tips to prepare your kids for starting school.

Dressed up

Your child is perhaps worried to wear their new uniform. So let them practice putting it on, taking it off and folding it skillfully in homework for lessons. Teach them the behaviors of getting dressed, such as holding cuffs to stop covers riding up and don’t forget to try out shoes and coats too.

Prepared for Food

If your child is taking a lunchbox, make sure they can open it and any dishes and packets inside. Get them used to social meal too, by inviting friends for tea or visiting cafes.

Practical Skills

Going to the toilets in perhaps the most important. Get your child confident about getting to toilet in time, wiping properly, flushing and washing their hands. Blowing their nose into a tissue is another useful skill. A supportive chat about what to do if they wet themselves, feel sick or have any other problems will them added confidence.

Home Activities

Letting children involving in household activities such as cooking and gardening, are great ways of helping them develop the hand strength and co-ordination they will basic to control a pencil at school. Get your child to express themselves with colored chalks, paints, or water and paintbrushes on the yard.

Read and Write

Your child won’t expected to be able to write, but it’s helpful if they can recognize their name on a label when they start school. Look out for as many prospects as likely for them to see their name. You could put their name on the fridge or on their books.

Numbers Practice

Give your child a great start in numeracy by singing number rhymes together. Look out for numbers whenever you are out and when you spot them in books. Give numbers meaning by counting everything.

Confident Communicators

Young children do best at school when they are confident communicators who can say what they think, express how they feel, and ask for help when they need it. So talk about anything or everything without diversions from TVs, computers and phones whenever possible. Get them used to talking to adults too, welcoming friends, parents or asking questions of staff in shops and libraries.

Learn and Practice

School-age children need to be able to follow their teacher’s instructions. Games are great practice for them. Once they have learned simple instructions, add two or three together like “take off your shoes, hang up your uniform, and then wash your hand please”. If they have difficulty following, ask them to repeat the request back to you and give lots of compliment when they get it right.
